Karpos Live Mix 6: Unique + Jordan Rakei Live in Manila 2019 |
I've been to many concerts and music festivals but Karpos Live is nothing like them. How, and why? Read on!
It's been a year since Karpos Multimedia launched Karpos Live. It's basically a concert series that features both homegrown and international acts in a smaller-than-your-usual concert venue.
But I like it because it makes it more intimate so you really get to feel and focus on the music more. Plus, these are all full sets!
Mix 6 (which happened last September 1, 2019) was my very first Karpos Live experience. I wanted to attend Mix 5 so bad because they brought RAC back in Manila, but I was preoccupied that day. ðŸ˜
For Mix 6, Karpos Live brought Unique and Jordan Rakei together in one night, with Banna Harbera as the opening act.
The crowd went wild when Unique went the stage. But more so when he started his set with an acoustic version of “Mundo”, a song he used to sing with his former band, IV Of Spades. Unique is the embodiment of his name. He is one of a kind and versatile, which was evident with his set that night: a mix of melancholy, psychedelic, and rock—which we all loved.
My favorite part of his set was when he sang an acoustic-almost-stripped-off version of "Sino", which was matched with a spotlight as warm as the voices of the crowd singing along to every word.
I'm not really into slow and melancholic songs (except for Oh Wonder) but Jordan Rakei made me like and appreciate it more through his live performance that night.
It's like his lyrics pierced through my heart. I felt every word even though I'm not hurting or going through anything hard. 😅 It didn't help that his voice was so soulful, breathing life to those lyrics...
My favorite part of his performance was when he sang "Nerve". I swear, these words were stuck in my head for weeks: "How can I find a reason to love you, when I don't love myself."
