Korean Drama Fever: A compilation of my favorite scenes from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

I have watched Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo last year—around the same time, it was shown in South Korea. However, after months of speculation on whether Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo co-stars Nam Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyung are dating, just this April 24th, their management YG Entertainment has finally issued a statement that two are indeed really dating. So of course, the NJH x LSK shipper inside of me was so damn happy (the ship has sailed!!!). I was so happy to the point that I felt the urge to watch WFKBJ again... But will rather not, since I'm super busy nowadays.

YG issued a statement saying, "We have checked with Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk, and we were told that the two, who were close friends since their modeling days, recently started seeing each other with good feelings."

So instead of re-watching all 16 episodes again, let me just share with you my favorite scenes from this show. So for all new readers of my blog, whenever I stream TV shows or movies and hear/read something that really catches my attention, I screen cap it so that I can always remember the exact scene/words said. Being a couch potato, it became a habit of mine. (Click here for related posts.) But of course, I do not claim that it is my property and I also do not sell these nor did I intend to make a profit off of it. Just pure fun, guys.

Anyway, enough of this jibber-jabber. Let's remember all the good vibes this show has brought us through these...

* I'd rather not discuss each scene. I'll let these screenies do the talking! (Also to avoid spoilers for those who haven't watched this!)

I wonder how many kilos Lee Sung Kyung ate for this show 😅

I just love it whenever Joon-hyung knows what to say to lift up Bok-joo's mood.

Ippeuda~

Clingy Joon-hyung is neomu neomu kyeopta~

You never mess with Bok-joo 😂

I especially loved the cinematography and coloring of this show... Everything's so photographic.

Joon-hyung, that's so sweet of you but please don't 😂

Joon-hyung, you always have the right words at the right time!

Ngawww these two really

I CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF DURING THIS SCENE!

Life, in general.

Okay, so it's been almost 6 months since I started binge-watching Korean dramas. Now, I've been into Korean dramas before, like Glass Slippers (young So Ji-sub!!!), "Endless Love", "Stairway to Heaven", "Full House", "Secret Garden", "Witch Yoo Hee", etc., but studying came first back then, so I stopped. Then when I was already on my first job, my liking for Korean dramas is rekindled, because my colleagues were into those. I eventually binge-watched "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho", "You Who Came From The Stars", "The Master Sun", "I Can Hear Your Voice" (Lee Jong-suk!!!), "Secret Love" (where I cried buckets), etc. etc. But, life happened, so I got busy again.

However, because of a friend's recommendation, I started watching "She Was Pretty". Since then, I continuously watched Kdramas. I never stopped. Every time I get to finish something, I immediately proceeded to another one. That, while I was catching up with my favorite American TV shows, plus a 9.5-hour job. #TheStruggleIsReal

Recently, I was thinking a lot about why my thing for Kdramas is stronger than my first two phases in life. I came to a conclusion that maybe, I was tired of all the repetitive and predictable plots of Filipino TV shows, that's why I stayed away from those. Secondly, I used to watch about 10 American TV shows at the same time, but nowadays, I either stopped watching or I just don't find most of them as entertaining as it used to be for me. I was searching for a breath of fresh air. Something new. My life is already stressful due to the number of things I decided to do and achieve, so I wanted to watch something that will really lift my mood. Something that's light but fun. And I found that in Korean dramas.

Korean dramas for me are more entertaining than others because whenever I look for something to watch, I always consider how predictable the plot it. If it's like the usual, I'm out. If it's something I've never watched before, then count me in.

SPOILER ALERT!
I actually have several reasons why I love Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, but here are ten:
  1. While being light, the story is realistic, but fun. Did gave me good vibes. While watching, it transported me to my younger days. I suddenly felt young and care free again.
  2. Every scene is very photographic, I so love it!!! I love it so much that my longing to travel to South Korea (and visit my uncle who lives there) has been tripled!!!
  3. The cinematography and the coloring/filter. The aesthetic was very on point!
  4. Athleisure! This term was coined to refer to sporty clothes that can still be fashionable. Being athletes on the show, their outfits should reflect who they are. They executed this perfectly, without compromising the style. I swear, if the Philippines have a winter season, I'm definitely copying Bok-joo's OOTDs!
  5. I love how Joon-hyung and Bok-joo started out as friends before they became lovers. I truly believe that friendship, next to love, is the reason why couples remain together.
  6. Joon-hyung always knows the right thing to say at the right time.
  7. Joon-hyung and Bok-joo both brought out the best in each other. They are young and in love, but that did not become a reason to be consumed with the idea of love. Instead, they helped each other to be successful. They motivated each other whenever they are feeling down and uninspired. That's what a relationship should be!
  8. Bok-joo's unconditional love to his father, and how family always come first.
  9. Joon-hyung's respect for Bok-joo. You see, he fell in love with Bok-joo quite fast. And even though he was still in denial because Bok-joo was head over heels with her crush, he waited. He waited, and he was always there for her when no one was, or when she didn't want him to. He loved her already, but he waited because he respects Bok-joo and her feelings.
  10. JOON-HYUNG AND HIS SWEETNESS

There. So much for letting the photos speak for themselves, but I cannot help it. LOL. Anyway, here's the thing. Earlier, I mentioned I consistently watched Korean dramas. With this, expect more Korean-related posts here in my blog. :)

P.S.,
What other Korean dramas do you recommend?
