Because of the COVID19 pandemic, working from home suddenly became the new normal for us working professionals. For years, enduring the horrible traffic just to be able to come to the office was our daily life. But not today. And unfortunately, not in the next few weeks.

While there are lucky ones who have been working from home way before the pandemic hit us, there are still some of us who are still trying to adapt to this new working setup, and I'm one of them.

Although it's not my first time to work from home, (I used to be a full-time freelance writer for about 3 months), going back to working from home became quite a struggle for me, because it's different when you have the ability to choose to do it, rather than be forced to.

When you have the choice to do so, you become more at ease, and productive. Now it's anxiety-inducing because yes, you can work at the comfort of your own home, but being productive is challenging because of the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on our mental health and emotional wellbeing. And that is when I realized: there are certain things that are beyond my control (like the pandemic, job uncertainty, the economy, the countless issues our country is facing, etc), but the conduciveness of my working environment? That I can.

During the first month of the community quarantine, I was experimenting on my work from home setup. I sometimes even found myself eating breakfast at my desk because I wanted to be comfortable to be productive.

However, I realized: less is more. The less clutter I have in my desk, the more I can think clearly, hence, increased productivity.

But then again, some days I feel inspired, or I have a sudden spike of creativity in me, so I redecorate again. I placed home fragrances in my desk so that I can feel more relaxed. Plus the ~aesthetic~ also helps me to still be inspired and pursue some creative side projects outside of work.

The best work from home setup...

...is entirely up to you. We all have different personalities, tastes, interests, and more. You can choose to set up your home office to reflect your personality, or you can even make it aspirational: be who you want to be. Let your workstation at home be whatever you want to be.

Finding your ideal work from home or home office work set up is not a one-off thing, at least, for me. People change, and my workstation sometimes reflects that. At the end of the day, you're the one who will be using that desk or space for work. So you have to make sure it is comfortable and is conducive for a working environment. Don't be afraid to explore, try new things, or even post about it on social media, because girl, you do you.
