Food-ventures: Sunnies Cafe at SM Megamall

I had my first wisdom tooth extraction earlier this weekend. It was actually the perfect time for me to do this because of the long weekend; more time to recuperate from the procedure, plus I get to eat my favorite comfort food, Mom's Arroz Caldo! The (bloody) process which took more than an hour, our patience and most definitely, my tooth and strength, was not something to look forward to. But the one thing I did look forward though, was my dentist's advise--to eat Halo-halo, ice cream, and more cold beverages and desserts!

My dentist's clinic was just along Shaw Boulevard. After the extraction, my boyfriend and I decided to go to Megamall to watch Marvel's Doctor Strange before we both go to our hometowns for the long weekend. You see - this was a good idea at first, when the anesthesia was still there. But halfway the movie, it wore off, and left me catching my breath and crying because of how painful my right jaw was! The bad news is I don't have any painkiller with me. Bottom line: I had to endure the pain (I was crying silently), control myself from falling asleep (I was exhausted from the extraction) and continue watching the movie. It was my choice though, because the movie was too good!

I called my dentist after and asked a few questions post-extraction. She mentioned ice cream, so what immediately popped out of my brain was: milkshakes! That's when I remembered, Sunnies Cafe just opened in the same mall that we were in, and guess what one of their specialties is: milkshakes!!!

While the boyfriend was buying some painkillers for me, I already sat inside. I follow Sunnies Cafe on Instagram that's why I know that one of their bestsellers is the Kimye milkshake (Cookies and Cream ice cream, Nutella. crushed Oreos, whipped cream and malted milk)

I only ordered Kimye because I was waiting for the boyfriend to arrive, so we can order together. Unfortunately, the milkshake took soooo long, to think that it was just my order and considering the number of people inside. The cafe wasn't even full.

Anyway, good thing the staff were courteous and very accommodating to the customers. I even noticed some managers (I think?) who were roaming around and kept on asking customers if they still needed anything and if they were enjoying their food. Note that there were a lot of staff in the cafe! So much that I think they're enough for 2 floors of the cafe's space!

And so the boyfriend came after what seemed like hours. Thankfully, he arrived when I was about to cry from so much pain - imagine the stares I would've earned from the people near me. Haha. Anyway, the boyfriend ordered himself Chicken and Pancake (Country-style fried chicken, Buttermilk Ricotta Pancake, Truffled Sunny-side-up egg with spiced Maple syrup). It was supposed to be my order, but I figured, it'd be better if I try a different dish. That did not stop me though, from eating half of his food. Haha. Don't judge me, I haven't had a decent meal prior to my extraction, and also, the whole thing drained me of my strength and blood.

I super loved his meal because the buttermilk pancake was sooo tasty; you can eat it without maple syrup. The country style fried chicken - is another story. IT WAS SO GOOD. The texture was a bit similar to BonChon chicken, but tastier and more savory. This time, the order did not arrive late.

The boyfriend suggested I order Eggs Benny (Poached eggs, Crispy Potato Nest, Torched Hollandaise) with Norweigan Smoked Salmon. It's basically like Eggs Benedict, but with a twist. I loved the potato nest so much (gosh, I'm salivating as I'm typing this), it went well with the poached eggs. Now, I don't know what Hollandaise is or where that thing is with the food that I ate but I kinda did not like it when mixed with the salmon (which was raw??). Maybe, I would appreciate it on a normal day, and not post-wisdom tooth extraction.

Okay, so the food was good, yes. However, it was a bit expensive. But then again, apart from the food, you pay for the place (nice ambiance, by the way), the good service and the experience. So will I eat here again? Yes, because the milkshake alone is worth the price, and in all fairness, basing from the food we ordered, they all did not disappoint. Also, I commend the team behind Sunnies Cafe for having such well-trained staff. I will definitely be back, as I want to try other food from the menu, especially one from the main course.

Also, I must say, I love how Sunnies Cafe was inspired by pop culture. From the ambiance, names of food, the marbles, and my personal favorites: the wall full of magazines from Kinfolk, Vogue, etc etc. Will definitely back for all those!
