Food-ventures: Starting 2020 right with Cafe 2.0 | Healthy Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo and Keto-friendly meals, Bulletproof Coffee, and more! |
So the husband and I just had our first (and healthy) brunch date for 2020 featuring: Paleo and Keto-friendly meals that are gluten-free, grain-free, soy-free, refined sugar-free, and free of ingredients that are bad for you! They even offer vegan and vegetarian options upon request. Sure, Cafe 2.0's, meals are indeed healthy, but are they worth it? 🤔
Cafe 2.0 is a coffee shop, a healthy food restaurant, and shop. It's located at 123 Block Guerrero Compound along Pioneer St. in Mandaluyong City. However, it's not that easy to find.
We went to 123 Block Guerrero Compound yet we didn't see Cafe 2.0 right away. Instead, you'll see this huge rustic door. Push it and get inside.
The building is so nice. It has a modern rustic interior. And, who would've thought that there is a bunker that houses Bootie-Boot Productions, the team behind several intimate music events held in this building.
Then there's Out Of The Box, where you can shop for branded sneakers sans the box (hence the name).
Further inside is OG (Out Of The Box Open Gym), a physical fitness center. They're still a work in progress, but their space supports coaches who are trying to develop a practice in functional fitness, movement, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, sports performance, strength, and conditioning.
Near the stairs is this drum set. I figured this is the stage for intimate music events and more. In fact just this December, they had Retail Therapy. The last leg featured Ciudad, and Cheats!
Then on the 3rd and topmost floor, you'll see Cafe 2.0.
It's hard to not miss Cafe 2.0 and its amazing area because of its urban-industrial interior design with lots of wooden furniture, art, and even books!
We ordered food upon arriving. So while it's being prepared, I decided to admire and take a look at the area because how can you not???
The other side looks more artsy, with all those paintings. It's the perfect area for lounging or catching up with your friends over healthy meals and bulletproof coffee!
The other side is perfect for some quiet and alone time. Whether you need to study, work, or perhaps read some books, this is it. Cafe 2.0 even has plenty of books for you to choose from!
I just love how the shelves have paintings on top of them, plus plants too!
Their book selection is very interesting. It's very on-brand because they have books about sneakers, shopping, paleo and keto, and even technology!
They even have this geek spot where there are Marvel comics and even Chuck Season 1 to 4!
And then it's time to eat!
Cafe 2.0 | The Food
Since it's lunchtime when we got there, I had Tapa Meal while the husband ordered Liempo Meal. They don't serve rice, unfortunately. Only veggie rice, which is a mix of squash, cabbage, onions, sea salt, and sauteed using coconut oil. And by the way, they only use free-range eggs!Cafe 2.0's Liempo Meal - P280 |
For a moment there, I thought I wouldn't like the veggie rice. We Filipinos love rice, and I just can't quit rice no matter how hard I try. I tried brown rice, but it makes me feel bloated much more than the white one. Now I eat quinoa during weekdays, but nothing really beats white rice for me. So when I finally got to try Cafe 2.0's veggie rice, I was so happy because I finally told myself that I can possibly quit rice after all! The taste is nice, it's not too heavy on my stomach but it's enough to make me full.
Cafe 2.0's Tapa Meal - P320 |
I don't usually eat beef, but I like to treat myself to savory tapa every now and then. I like my tapa spicy so I didn't love Cafe 2.0's tapa that much, but what stood out the most was the texture.
It's not fatty, chunky, and makunat. It also doesn't also taste maanggó, which is a Tagalog term for (usually) beef that smells or tastes like unfresh meat and/or fermented milk. My stomach and my nose can't really take that. 😅
We also tried their Original Bulletproof Coffee (with grass-fed butter and Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil), and housemade Kombucha!
In case you don't know yet, Bulletproof Coffee is also known as Butter Coffee, which is a powerful core component to intermittent fasting, ketogenic and paleo diets. Cafe 2.0 based theirs from the original recipe of Bulletproof Coffee using Bulletproof certified clean coffee, grass-fed butter, and Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil.
Cafe 2.0's Housemade Kombucha - P120 |
Kombucha is a traditional fermented drink made by fermenting sweetened black or green tea. It's full of B-vitamins, antioxidants, and probiotics! It even helps detoxify your body, as well as build your immune system. It's that healthy. However, I just can't bear the taste of kombuchas because it's too sour for me. 😅 But if it helps, Cafe 2.0's Housemade Kombucha is not too sour. The husband even loved it!
